Black people had it easier in the north in the 1920's and 1930's?

Jim Crow,Segregation,Scottsboro trials,lynchings all happened in the South in states like Alabama,Georgia,Mississippi the deep south.Well Motown was founded in 1959/1960 in Detroit and that the north and they seemed to have it good despite the 1967 riots but doo wop and things happened.I have watched movies about the jim crow and they were all in the south.I wish I could have live in the 1920's in New york.
