In the usa,is it usefull to understand the african american accent?

What "accent" are you talking about?,since African Americans are as American as anyone else.American accents in general are very diverse since there exist the Texan accent,Florida accent,Californian accent,etc..Americans(regardless of their race)in general possess the accent of the state in which they were raised in as children.
