Sprint gave me a michigan phone #...i live in texas?

my brother bought me a palm pixi for christmas, but when I got it they gave me a long distance number with a 313 area code...which I think is detroit michigan? I have always lived in northeast texas though... Either way I suppose I'll just have him call and change the number... Well, does anyone have any idea how this couldve happened?
